Steps to Participate in the SCC General Ceremony

1. Graduation Application

All students must apply to graduate (except High School Completion HS+ students). Students are encouraged to apply two quarters prior to the term they'd like to graduate, but can apply anytime before the last day of the quarter in which they plan to finish. For priority processing, submit your Graduation Application by these dates:

  • For graduation at the end of spring quarter, January 31
  • For graduation at the end of summer quarter, March 31
  • For graduation at the end of fall quarter, July 31
  • For graduation at the end of winter quarter, September 30

Please contact the Transcripts Office with questions about this form. We are available at 509-533-7001transcripts@scc.spokane.edu,, or in Building 15 on the main campus. 

The deadline to ensure your name can appear in the printed program is May 1st.

2. Pick up cap and gown

Caps and gowns will be available for pick-up only at no cost beginning May 19, 2025 in the SCC Bookstore, Mondays through Thursdays, 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. and Fridays, 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. No reservations required - please bring student ID to help with identification. Students may have a friend or family number pick up on their behalf.

Honor cords will be distributed with caps and gowns for graduates with a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher through Winter 2025.  

For veteran graduates, Americana cords
are distributed through the Veterans One-Stop in the Lair Student Center, Building 6, Room 112 on the SCC Campus.. 

3. Attending the ceremony

There are no tickets to the event. Admission for students and all guests is free. Seating is based on a first come first served basis. Students must arrive by 2 p.m. wearing their cap and gown. Stilettos are prohibited, as The Podium floors and bleachers are not suitable for this type of footwear. 

Bring only what you can carry throughout the ceremony. There is no place to leave personal belongings during the ceremony. Graduates are required to participate in the entire ceremony.  

Diplomas

Students will receive a diploma cover at the commencement ceremony. Formal diplomas/certificates will arrive in the mail after the spring quarter.  

Photos

Photos of individual graduates will be taken at the ceremony by our partner, Image Visual Services. Order forms will be available at cap and gown pick-up and at the ceremony. Specific costs and package options will be available at the ceremony. 

Web streaming

The ceremony will be live streamed on the Spokane Colleges YouTube channel. The video will not be available for purchase after the ceremony but may be accessible on the website.
