We value a collaborative process as we work with students to establish services. Please ensure that you read all the steps below before starting the online application.

How to Get Started

Complete these steps to request disability or health condition accommodations:

  1. Complete the online Application for Disability Access Services.
    • You will receive a confirmation email once the application has been received.
    • If you need support completing the application or are experiencing any accessibility barriers with the application, please contact the DAS office! We have computers and assistance available in our office.
  2. If you have it, submit disability documentation.
    • Check out our guidelines on disability documentation for information on what type of documentation is helpful.
    • Upload any related documents during the application process.
    • If you have trouble uploading your documentation, you can also email it to us at DAS@scc.spokane.edu, fax it to 509-533-8877, or come by our office to submit a copy.
    • If you don’t have documentation, don’t worry—you can still apply for services. Any student experiencing a disability, health condition, suspected disability, or accessibility barrier can apply for services. You can start the process without documentation or a formal diagnosis.
  3. Set up your SCC Bigfoot email account.
    • Your SCC Bigfoot email account will be your username for the DAS Student Portal.
    • You must set up your SCC Bigfoot email account before you will be able to activate your accommodation plan.
    • Need help? Visit the Bigfoot Email – Activating Your Account page for assistance.
  4. Complete an Access Planning Meeting.
    • Once we receive your application, we will reach out to you to schedule an Access Planning Meeting.
    • This is where we’ll meet (in person or via Zoom) to discuss your needs. We will collaborate to develop a personalized accommodation plan, unique to you.
  5. Activate your accommodation plan.
    • Accommodation plans must be activated in the DAS Student Portal each quarter. Activating your accommodation plan lets course instructors and DAS know that you want to use your accommodations.
    • The DAS Student Portal integrates with the college's course registration system (ctcLink) and updates courses each term. This allows you to choose which accommodations you wish to use in each class.
    • Important Note: It may take up to 48 hours after registering, adding, or changing classes for changes to appear in the DAS Student Portal.
  6. Work with DAS and instructors to implement accommodations.
    • After your instructors receive notice of your accommodation plan, it is important to communicate with them to develop a plan for using accommodations in each course.
    • Tips for talking with instructors about accommodations
    • You may also need to attend follow up meetings with DAS to set up technology or other accommodations.
    • You may also need to schedule exams/quizzes with DAS or the SCC Testing Center to implement your accommodations.

Important Tips to Keep in Mind:

  • Plan ahead: Setting up accommodations can take 1-5 weeks, and appointments can be booked out at peak times. You can apply for Disability Access Services at any time, but we encourage you to start the process early before the start of the quarter.
  • Stay in touch: It’s important to stay engaged with DAS and your instructors and to address any concerns or questions in a timely manner.
  • Contact us anytime: Have questions? Need help with the process? Feel free to reach out! You can reach us at 509-533-7169, 509-321-4406 (VP / Video Phone for Sign Language Users), or DAS@scc.spokane.edu.
