In the vibrant and dynamic environment of college life, students often find themselves navigating a maze of challenges, opportunities, and transitions. To foster a supportive and empowering community, the College Peer-to-Peer Mentorship Program, "I.M.P.A.C.T.," was established. This initiative aims to connect students with experienced peers who can offer guidance, encouragement, and practical advice, encouraging personal and academic growth.

What is IMPACT?

Inspiring Minds to Promote Action, Change, and Transformation (IMPACT) is a peer-to-peer mentorship program designed to connect first year students with returning students and create a network of support for SCC college students.

The program provides an exchange of knowledge and experiences to promote a culture of collaboration and resource sharing. The goal is to increase access to college success resources and create a sense of belonging for all students.

Who can join?

The program welcomes all students, including those who are new to the campus, seeking to connect with others, provide additional support and share college tips on how to be successful.

What will you gain?

Mentors will provide invaluable insights and advocacy, helping their assigned mentees navigate academic pressures, personal challenges, and social integration. This peer-to-peer approach ensures that support is both relatable and accessible, enhancing the mentee's confidence and resilience. In turn, mentors will develop their leadership and interpersonal skills, gaining a deeper understanding of their own educational journey and contributing positively to the campus community.

Please contact Debbie Joyner, Multicultural Programs Supervisor, to schedule a time to chat! Then you will complete a short application that involves a brief questionnaire to match students whose interests, goals, and experiences align with their own.

What do IMPACT students say?

IMPACT Mentee Elizabeth stated: “My experience in this new project IMPACT is definitively positive. I have learned to improve my skills like talking, asking, learning, looking for resources and being myself.”

IMPACT Mentor Sarahi stated: “Before I started the program, I felt like one more student on this big campus. [After], I found it very mindful now to arrive at a place where I can find smiling faces and feel welcomed and know their names.”
