Steps to Participate in the SCC General Ceremony
1. Graduation Application
High School Completion (HS+) students do not need to apply to graduate. All other students must apply. For priority processing, submit your Graduation Application (formerly Petition to Graduate) by these dates:
- For graduation at the end of spring quarter, January 31
- For graduation at the end of summer quater, March 31
- For graduation at the end of fall quarter, July 31
- For graduation at the end of winter quarter, September 30

The deadline to participate in the graduation ceremony for SCC was May 1st. If you missed the deadline, but are interested in participating, please contact SCC.Studentlife@scc.spokane.edu to be considered for an exception.
Note - it is not possible for participants approved after May 1st to have their names printed in the commencement program.
2. Pick up cap and gown
Caps and gowns will be available for pick-up only at no cost beginning May 17 in the SCC Bookstore, Mondays through Thursdays, 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. and Fridays, 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. Students do not need to reserve these in advance. Students may have a family member or friend pick up for them.
Honor cords will be distributed with caps and gowns for graduates with a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher through Winter 2024.
For veteran graduates, Americana cords are distributed through the Veterans One-Stop on the main SCC campus.
3. Attending the ceremony
There are no tickets to the event. Admission for students and all guests is free. Seating is based on a first come first served basis. Students must arrive by 2 p.m. wearing their cap and gown. Stilettos are prohibited, as The Podium floors and bleachers are not suitable for this type of footwear.
Bring only what you can carry throughout the ceremony. There is no place to leave personal belongings during the ceremony. Graduates are required to participate in the entire ceremony.
