Happy Lights
Sunlight is an essential ingredient for a healthy lifestyle, but many of us don’t get the amount of daylight we need to feel its benefits. Happy lights, also known as light therapy lamps, are available for in-therapy use. Ask your therapist at your next visit!
- Light therapy lamps can help combat the tiredness dip in mood commonly associated with winter blues, lack of sunlight exposure.
- Using the light signals your body’s natural energy enhancers to reduce sluggishness and lethargy - allowing you to be alert and focused when you need it most.
- Full spectrum light helps your body function properly and ensures you can feel focused and revitalized.
Propagation Station
Calling All Plant Lovers!
The SCC Mental Health Clinic is excited to present our plant propagation station—open to everyone in our campus community!
Visit our plant propagation station by entering the north entrance to building #7.
What is Plant Propagation?
Plant propagations are pieces, or cuttings, from plants that grow their own root systems and become new plants.
Why Have a Propagation Station?
This project helps promote green spaces and cleaner air by enabling the community to take and grow plants in their own homes. Plants are a fun hobby—and come with the added benefits. Houseplants boost mental health by reducing stress, anxiety, and depressive feelings while improving mood, focus, and productivity, largely through connecting us with nature, lowering cortisol, and providing a sense of purpose through care. Activities like watering and pruning can calm the nervous system, lower blood pressure, and offer a mindful escape, making indoor environments happier and healthier spaces, especially crucial during isolation.
Looking to Donate?
Please bring your cuttings to the clinic’s front desk.
Additional things to consider
Please take 1-2 cuttings — The clinic wants to provide cuttings to many people in the community, so please just limit taking 1-2. Cuttings will be replenished over time, so you’ll be able to come back another day for another cutting.
Using bags to transport cuttings — When you take a cutting from our station, please use the provided plastic bags with paper towels. Keeping your cutting’s roots moist during transport will help keep it healthier, so please take a bag! Using the bag is easier and less messy than a water container.
All plants in WATER containers are part of this program! Any plants in a pot of dirt belong to the clinic; please DO NOT take them.
