Enrollment Information

New Students and Students Not Currently Enrolled

All PACE students are required to attend an orientation before registering for classes. All orientations and classes are held in-person at the SCC, Spokane campus. You will learn about the new PACE Certificate and you will register for classes. Faculty, administrators, and staff will be available to answer your questions.

Orientation for spring 2024 quarter will be held on March 11th from 5:30pm-7:30pm. Please register here.

Currently Enrolled PACE Students

Enrollment days are coming! All PACE students will be enrolling for spring 2024 quarter during their scheduled appointment on either February 26th or 27th. The appointment will be held during the student’s regularly scheduled class time. Letters will be sent home on February 12th and 13th with appointment information. No other classes will be held on February 26th or 27th.

The PACE Program

PACE (People Accessing Careers and Education) is a non-credit program at Spokane Community College that provides classes for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities who want to develop skills for employment or further education.

The PACE Program is part of the Adult Education Division at Spokane Community College. The Adult Education Division is responsible for foundational skills such as, reading, writing, math, and technology. The goal is for students to build their skills in preparation for further study or to begin a career.

Programs offered through this division are funded through the Title II Adult Education and Family Literacy Act components of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act of 2014.

Student Eligibility

  • Have an intellectual or developmental disability;
  • Be at least 18 years old;
  • Ability to safely and independently navigate the college campus after initial orientation;
  • Independently take care of personal care needs including hygiene, toileting and medication;
  • Agree to follow the Student Code of Conduct;
  • Attend class and meetings as scheduled;
  • Mandatory enrollment of either the Building Healthy Relationships or Community Living class in the first quarter and completion (passing) of either class within the first two quarters of enrolling;
  • Complete a mandatory Title IX Safety Training by attending the in-person orientation prior to beginning classes.

Student Responsibilities

  1. Students enroll in classes to make progress towards earning the PACE Certificate.
  2. No more than 1 hour break between classes.
  3. Do your best, do homework, and prepare for class every day.
  4. Come to class every day. Tell your teacher if you are sick or have an emergency.
  5. You have 3 chances to pass your class. Your teacher will help you if you can’t pass the first time.

PACE Certificate

The PACE Certificate is designed to build workplace readiness skills which can be applied to a future career, volunteer work, or other community engagement activities. The Certificate is designed to help students achieve the following four outcomes:

  1. Apply critical thinking skills to form opinions and conclusions.
  2. Demonstrate leadership and teamwork skills.
  3. Demonstrate workplace readiness skills.
  4. Develop and use digital literacy skills.

Across these four outcome areas, the PACE Certificate is composed of 90 credits. To earn these 90 credits and graduate with a PACE Certificate, students have the opportunity to complete a total of 30 three-credit classes. A student taking a full-time courseload (15 credits per quarter) can earn the PACE Certificate in approximately two years or six academic quarters.

To meet a variety of learning differences, students have the opportunity to attempt each class up to three times in order to meet the class learning outcomes.

How to get enrolled

  1. Attend a mandatory orientation session. Check the top of this webpage for information on upcoming orientation sessions. You must RSVP to attend an orientation session.
  2. Complete program paperwork.
  3. Meet with a PACE advisor to select and register for classes.
