I started with the Adult Basic Education division in 1999 and have worked in a variety of roles. I am inspired by the success and perseverance of the students and the amazing support the instructors and staff have for every individual. I am proud to be a part of a division that encourages everyone.
I started with the Adult Basic Education Division at the beginning of 2023 as Administrative Assistant 3 and am new to SCC. Previously, I have had various roles in my career from working retail to working as a Para-educator and also working for the state of Washington.
I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Science from Western Washington University. My degree is in Geology which has allowed me to study and explore a lot of the Pacific Northwest.
In my spare time I enjoy hiking, camping, spending time with family, and concerts.
I have an A.A.S. in electronics engineering technology from Spokane Community College and a B.S. in business management from Western Governors University. I have worked for the CCS adult education division since 2007. Throughout my time here, I have been a Workforce Coordinator, Classroom Instructional Technician, and most recently, NRS specialist, also known as the “WABERS person”.
I started with the Adult Basic Education Division in 2018 as a program coordinator for ESL. In 2023, I moved to the Office Manager position for ABE. I assist with day to day needs for faculty and staff within the division. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages and a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science with a minor in Spanish. I have a certificate in Latin American Studies from PUCV in Valparaiso, Chile. I also have a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from EWU. I spend my free time with my two dogs, Marshall and Milo.
I started as an Instructional Technician at the Lodge in 2010, working directly with students in the classroom. A few years later, my duties expanded with College Prep and Fundamentals of Math at SFCC. Throughout this time, I have had various roles, including enrollment, Casas testing, attendance, maintaining files, and tracking student progress.
I have learned so much from both staff and students, and I thoroughly enjoy being part of an amazing, supportive team.
I have started my position as a Classroom & Instructional Tech with ABE right after graduation from the ESL program in 2018. This is my first job in the US. In my country Belarus. I have master’s degree in Physical Education and 20 years of experience working with youth sports. It is an honor for me to work with such a great team of specialists and instructors who serve the refugee and immigrant community in their needs to study English. I like to spend my days off with friends traveling and hiking. But my ideal day is staying home with morning coffee, new audiobooks and catching up on TV.
I started as a volunteer with Adult Basic Education in the ESL classes at Valley Center. I was then hired for the position of LEP Program Coordinator for the English As a Second Language Department. This is my first job in the US. In my country, Ukraine, I have master’s degree in teaching. I am happy to work with such a great team of specialists and instructors who serve the refugee and immigrant community in their needs to study English. I like to spend my days off with family and friends. I am also interested in web development.
As an ABE Faculty Counselor, I support students in various ways throughout their educational journey. This includes helping student select ABE programs and classes, providing career exploration and guidance, and directing students to community resources when in need. My ultimate goal as a counselor, is to see students meet their educational and personal goals. Many of our students have had negative academic experiences in the past, and do not belief they can be successful. I hope to be a part of changing this narrative for students and help them realize how capable they actually are! Background: Bachelor’s in Psychology from Eastern Washington University, Master’s in Applied Psychology (Mental Health Counseling) form Eastern Washington University. I also have 8 years of experience providing Mental Health Counseling in our community, prior to joining Spokane Community College in 2018.
Kerry Templeton - ABE Pathway Specialist
I have been a part of the Spokane Community College community for just over four years. I chose SCC because it offers a wide variety of programs and serves a diverse student body. My past education includes a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Development and two teaching credentials in Elementary Education and Special Education. I find joy in the simple things of life, and I especially enjoy coffee dates with my husband, spending time with family and friends, listening to music, and taking long walks with my dog.
I have been teaching English as a Second Language to refugees and immigrants at Spokane Community College since 1998. I am passionate about serving refugees and immigrants, promoting diversity and inclusion, and continuing to learn about other cultures and languages. I am inspired by my ESL students, their resiliency, motivation and hard work despite their backgrounds and life challenges. I have a BA in Economics from University of Santo Tomas, Manila, Philippines; Master of Education from Eastern Washington University; Additional studies: Whitworth University, Concordia University, Manila Central University. Prior to SCC, I taught ESL, Social Studies and History in Micronesia for 7 years. I have also taught at Whitworth University, School of Education and TESOL Program and in the MA/TESOL department of Gonzaga University. My research and presentation interests include second language literacy acquisition and hands-on teaching methods. I have conducted numerous ESL literacy training workshops at Spokane area colleges and universities, on the west coast, and in the Midwest. I have also presented at local and international conferences and have published online literacy curricula and ESL websites.
I teach Smart Start (I-BEST) programs at SCC. I have been involved with programs such as Aviation Maintenance Technology, Automotive Technology, and Professional Business Technology, to name a few. My career with SCC started in 2006 and I have taught in various programs across various campus locations. My goal is to put students in a better position to succeed.
I love working with our students and helping them achieve their academic goals. I am inspired by their hard work and resilience and love it when I see a student have an “Aha” moment in math or finally feel confident about their math skills.
I have been teaching for the college since 2004, and I have taught almost every level of ABE--from basic reading to College Prep and Smart Start/I-BEST! I currently teach ABE, GED, and HS+ classes. Teaching math classes makes my heart the happiest, but I also enjoy teaching HS+ pods, labs, and the occasional English class. Teaching is a rewarding experience, and I consider it a privilege to help students achieve their goals! I am inspired by the hard work and resiliency that I see from my students daily.

I have been teaching students all the subjects for their GED test or High School Diploma for over 30 years! I especially LOVE to teach Math and Science. It makes my heart sing to hear students say they “see science everywhere” and they are learning, and even enjoying, math for the first time in their lives! I am inspired by my colleagues who are dedicated to students’ success and passionate about teaching! I am honored to put on my SCC name badge Monday – Friday! I have a Bachelor’s of Science from Gonzaga is in Mathematics, and the M.Ed. from Eastern is in Teaching, emphasis in Reading. I also have a K-12 teaching certificate.
I taught for 16 years in the SCC Math Department before joining ABE in 2014. My primary focus is teaching math to students who are taking the GED test or want to improve math skills before starting credit classes. I enjoy helping students discover that they can do math! Prior to moving to Spokane, I worked for 10 years in industry as a Chemical Engineer in Michigan and Illinois. My main experience was technical service and development for release agents that are used in the tire industry.
I teach immigrant, refugee, undocumented, and more ESL students at SCC. I really enjoy helping students improve their English communication skills.
I have been with Spokane Community College since 2012. My experience includes over ten years as SCC faculty in both credit and noncredit programs. I hold a master’s degree in Teaching English as a Second Language from Eastern Washington University where I graduated in 2013. I have a passion for serving former refugees, immigrants, historically underserved, and multilingual populations. In addition to teaching, I look forward to continuing the work of creating and providing equitable and inclusive educational opportunities for all students.
I have worked for CCS since 2007. My career with IEL/SCC started with ABE where I worked as an instructional tech in the SEER program. I have also taught in PACE, SEER, Basic Skills, GED, High School, College Prep, and I-BEST. Over the last three years, I have been an annualized instructor for Business Technology, but I am now back with ABE and look forward to bringing that knowledge back and to support the ongoing Guided Pathways initiatives. I am passionate about helping students reach their academic goals and creating a positive and supportive atmosphere in my classrooms. I love learning and enjoy teaching a variety of subjects. I hope to carry this passion to the classroom and inspire my students to love discovering new things and become lifelong learners.
I started teaching for the Adult Basic Education division in 1996. I mainly teach math, and I enjoy seeing students gain confidence in their math abilities and learn skills they thought they could never learn.
