You will learn basic concepts in caring for infants through children age 8, including social, emotional, physical and cognitive development; health and safety; family and cultural diversity; and interactions and guidance. Knowledge learned in class will prepare you to work in a childcare setting.
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Demonstrate knowledge of the different developmental stages of infants through age 8.
- Apply health guidelines for safety and sanitary procedures, food, and nutrition in the childcare setting.
- Demonstrate knowledge of different cultural and family needs of children.
- Identify appropriate interactions and guidance techniques and learn positive communication tools to apply with children.
- Demonstrate knowledge in professional conduct, family and community partnerships, and mandatory reporting guidelines in a childcare setting.
- Students who pass all assignments at an 80% rate or higher may obtain their STARS certification with the State of Washington.
