Class Cancellations
SCC reserves the right to cancel any ACT 2 class and may reduce class hours or reschedule classes as needed. ACT 2 typically initiates cancellations based on enrollment numbers two business days in advance of the class start date. This two day rule applies to each class individually because ACT 2 classes start and stop throughout the term.
Class fees will be refunded automatically for class cancellations. When classes experience changes, the ACT 2 department will contact students and give them the option of remaining enrolled or being refunded.
If it turns out a class cannot be attended, call non-credit registration at (509) 533-8500 to drop the class. This makes it possible for another student to enroll and keeps SCC enrollment records accurate. An administrative fee is typically charged for dropping a class and will be removed from the amount refunded.
Class Swaps (Transfers)
To swap classes (transfer to a different class rather than drop the current class), call Non-Credit Registration at (509) 533-8500. This transaction ideally will occur before the first day of class or very early in the session. Students are responsible for paying any outstanding balance if the new class is more expensive than the previous class. If the new class is less than the previous class, a refund for the difference will be initiated.
Email
Students receive several emails when taking ACT 2 classes. Community Colleges of Spokane (CCS) IT creates a specific Spokane Community College (SCC) ‘bigfoot’ email address for every ACT 2 student. ACT 2 does not carry books at the Barnes & Noble College bookstore and this messaging can be opted out of. RAVE Alerts are notifications about emergencies and closures on SCC and SFCC campuses. For students who do NOT attend classes on campus, these emails can be opted out of every term by emailing CCS.CommunicationsOffice@ccs.spokane.edu and asking to be removed. Auto generated registration emails are typically generated when a student or Non-Credit Registration imitates a transaction related to registration such as registration, drop, swap, and refund.
Emails to pay attention to come from scc.act2@scc.spokane.edu. These emails are generated internally by ACT 2 staff. Some are system scheduled, others are manually generated and sent. ACT 2 staff rely heavily on email to communicate with students due to current staffing and availability.
Late Registration/Enrollment
Permission to register, or enroll, late is required from the ACT 2 office. Dates determined for late enrollment is based on ACT 2 class mode along with start and end dates. At times additional instructor permission may be required. Each class has a cutoff date, or last day to enroll, when registration closes officially.
Paying for Classes
Pay for classes three ways: online through www.campusce.net/spokaneactii, call Non-Credit Registration at (509) 533-8500, or visit Bigfoot Central at the main SCC campus in building 15.
Registration fees must be received before a student is officially registered. Only students who have registered and paid fees are admitted to class.
VISA, MasterCard and Discover are accepted. Personal checks not cleared by CheckRite will result in registration being cancelled. Cash is not accepted at off-campus sites. Instructors are not allowed to handle money or registrations at any time.
Refunds
Students are typically responsible for initiating class drop and refund requests. Please call SCC’s Non-Credit Registration team at (509) 533-8500 to start the class drop process. The following policies apply whether a student attends class or not:
State-support noncredit classes (which includes all ACT 2 classes): The dates for 100 percent and 50 percent refunds are based on a proportionate relationship to the length of a standard quarter and the requested drop date. In general, withdrawal needs to occur before the first day of class or very early in the class session.
Please allow at least two weeks for processing all refunds requests.
Senior Waiver versus Virginia White Memorial ACT 2 Scholarship
The main difference between the senior waiver and the Virginia White Memorial ACT 2 Scholarship is non-credit versus for credit.
The Virginia White Memorial ACT 2 scholarship will pay for half of a class up to a maximum of $25.00 for an ACT 2 class. ACT 2 classes are non-credit.
The Senior Waiver allows senior citizens to audit for no credit, meaning the ability to attend credit classes at Spokane Community College and Spokane Falls Community College at minimal cost.
For credit classes with prerequisites require the potential auditing student to submit official transcripts to show prerequisite has been met. Senior Waiver students may register to audit for credit classes in person on the third day of the term the class is being held in at Bigfoot Central located at SCC Main Campus in Building 15. It is generally recommended students go to the class they want to audit on the first day to seek permission from the instructor to audit the class, attend the class on day two, and then go register at Bigfoot Central on the third day of the term.
Virginia White Memorial ACT 2 Scholarship
The Virginia White ACT 2 Scholarship is available to offset the cost of a class. Scholarships are available Fall, Winter, and Spring quarters for half the amount of the class up to a max of $25.00. One scholarship may be available per term per student. Upon registration, indicate an interest in an ACT 2 Scholarship. ACT 2 personnel will be contacted by Non-Credit Registration staff for scholarship approval.
