Things to consider before enrolling in Running Start

  • Community college courses are taught at a faster pace than in high school. Material is often covered in (11-13 weeks) compared to one year at most high schools.

  • Study time is crucial in succeeding in college courses. Prep and study time can be at minimum up to two hours per course.
  • Sensitive subjects, including sex, violence, and religion are often discussed in college courses and programs.
  • Your high school holidays and vacation periods may not always align with SCC’s academic calendar. This means that you will still be responsible for attending your college courses.
  • All SCC students must abide by the student code of conduct to include attending and participating in courses, seeking academic help, and addressing academic conflicts with instructors.
  • Our office is mandated by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Running Start students and their student records are protected under this law unless they provide a release of information.
