The Writing Center at SCC

My name is Jackson, and I am currently an adjunct instructor of English at SCC. I grew up in Spokane, received a B.S. and B.A. from the University of Washington and a M.A. at Oregon State University. My academic interests lie at the intersection of literature and science, and I am always happy to talk more about them. In previous roles I have taught writing at OSU, served as a research study assistant at Northwestern University, and worked as a freelance editor. Outside of work, I love reading, playing with my cat, and am happiest around any kind of plant.

When it comes to writing I believe everyone has the ability to write successfully, and in my classroom and as a Writing Specialist I work hard to ensure that students have the skills and the confidence needed to exceed their own expectations. Working with students is the best job I’ve had, and I look forward to partnering with you to achieve your writing goals!

I am a current ENGL& 101 instructor here at SCC. I originally hail from Connecticut and have seven years of tutoring and teaching experience. I received my Bachelor of Arts in English from Southern Connecticut State University and a Master of Fine Arts (M.F.A) from Oregon State University, where I also instructed Composition Studies and Fiction Writing. 

I collaborate with my students to break down barriers standing in the way of their writing. Together, we invent individualized tools and strategies, build confidence, and try to have a little fun along the way. I look forward to working with you!

In addition to being adjunct English faculty, Amy is a Senior Writer for OUT THERE OUTDOORS magazine. With 25 years as a professional writer and over 10 years of teaching experience, at the high school and college level, Amy has helped guide and encourage many young writers to develop their unique writing style and “voice” as they improve their academic writing skills. She has a B.A. in Secondary Education & English (B.A.Ed.) from Western Washington University and a Masters in Fine Arts (MFA) in Creative Writing from Eastern Washington University.

With 15 years in K-12 and going on my second year teaching college, I love helping students discover their potential by embracing mistakes. In my class, it’s okay to stumble—that’s where real learning happens. I focus on creating a space where students feel safe to take risks and see setbacks as steps toward growth. The goal is to get them to gain or strengthen their confidence, knowing they can overcome obstacles and achieve success in their own way!

My interests include camping, reading, listening to podcasts, playing trivia and other games, singing karaoke, and going to the Knitting Factory for concerts! I don’t have any of my own children, but I am the proud auntie of 7 nieces and 2 nephews!

I have two orange cats named Butternut and Woodfurd.

I went to Washington State University for undergrad, GO COUGS!

I got my masters online through Southern New Hampshire University. The best part was traveling to Boston and New Hampshire to attend the graduation ceremony! 

I’m a literature-lover with a decade of experience teaching college writing across the western half of this country. I love big questions, local theater, DnD, and green chile in unexpected dishes.
