Running start is accessible to all who would like to participate. Spokane Community College has financial resources available to students who qualify for them. 

Running Start Fee Waiver and Textbook Voucher

The Running Start Fee Waiver and Textbook Voucher program is available for students and families with financial need to help with some of the college costs not covered under running start. Mandatory fees for qualifying classes (100-level and above) are waived. Also, textbook vouchers are available to help pay for a portion of the costs for required course textbooks through the SCC Bookstore.

Eligibility

•    Eligible for the free/reduced-price meals program;
•    Eligible for the College Bound Scholarship;
•    Eligible for state or federal public assistance program;
•    Foster youth or McKinney-Vento status;
•    Family/household income is equal to or less than USDA child nutrition program income guidelines.

How to Apply

Students who qualify for the fee waiver and textbook voucher program need to submit documentation of eligibility to SCC.RunningStart@scc.spokane.edu. The best way is to submit your Free/Reduced Lunch letter from your high school, but any documentation listed above works. 

Scholarships & Additional Financial Assistance

Washington Student Achievement Council (WSAC) Scholarship Grant

Dual Enrollment Scholarship Program provides assistance to eligible student enrolled in dual credit programs at Spokane Community College. 
The scholarship covers the following:

  • Materials and supplies that are deemed necessary for successful participation in professional technical degrees, certificates, and apprenticeship programs.
  • Mandatory fees prorated based on credit load.
  • Textbook vouchers worth $10 for each credit per quarter up to a maximum of 15 credits per quarter.
  • Course or lab fees as determined appropriate by college or university polices to pay for specified course related costs.

Running Start students who are eligible are:

  • Free/Reduced Priced Lunch (FRPL) eligible
  • Enrolled in at least one RS course
  • And have at least a GPA
 

Community Colleges of Spokane Foundation 

Running Start for Careers Scholarship is available for students that need additional help with fees, textbook and tools/supplies for the following programs:

  • Accounting Assistant 
  • Automotive Technology
  • Collision & Refinishing Technician
  • CAD Design and Drafting
  • Cosmetology 
  • Culinary Arts
  • Fire Science
  • Machinist/CNC Technology
  • Electronics Engineering Technician
  • Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration
  • Medical Office Specialist
  • Network Design and Administration
  • Paralegal
  • Welding
