Multi-Occupational Trades - Apprenticeship to AAS degree

The Multi-Occupational Trades (MOT) AAS recognizes the stringent requirements, on-the-job (OJT) training and related classroom instruction needed for an apprentice to reach journey-level status. A minimum of 6,000 clock hours of OJT and 450 hours of related classroom instruction along with an additional 30 program credits will meet the requirements of the AAS degree at SCC (Spokane Community College).

MOT is open to apprentices enrolled in a state recognized or federal registered JATC program or journey-level workers who have completed an approved apprenticeship training program. Verification of completion of an apprenticeship program by the state or federal agency is required before submission of the petition for graduation.

The following programs fulfill the criteria for on-the-job training (OJT) and classroom instruction, and have completed a Prior Learning Assessment with SCC:

  • Carpenters – Associated General Contractors
  • Cement Masons
  • Electrical Inside Wireman
  • Heat & Frost Insulators
    • Asbestos Worker 
  • Ironworkers
  • NW Laborers
  • Operator / Construction Equipment Operator – Associated General Contractors
  • Sheet Metal Worker 
 

 

  1. Build on apprecticeship training.
  2. Demonstrate basic principles of computers and business application software.
  3. Identify skills involved in planning a small business.
  4. Demonstrate applied mathematics skills such as estimating, calculators, measuring systems and practical applications.
  5. Plan and write reports and documents in technical format using punctuation rules.
  6. Utilize appropriate communication skills (verbal and non-verbal).

The Multi-Occupations AAS recognizes the stringent requirements of apprenticeships, on-the-job training, and related classroom instruction of each individual trades, plus 30 of college level coursework to complete an AAS (Associates in Applied Sciences). A minimum of 6,000 clock hours of OJT and 450 hours of related classroom instruction along with an additional 30 college credits meet the requirements of this AAS degree. This option is best suited for apprentices who wish to continue their education by transferring to a 4 year college or university.

MOT is open to apprentices enrolled in a state recognized or federal registered JATC program or journey-level workers who have completed an approved apprenticeship training program. Verification of completion of an apprenticeship program by the state or federal agency is required before petitioning to graduate.

The following courses may be taken in any order and students may be full or part time students. The required courses complete general education requirements providing a firm foundation for MOT students who wish to continue their education.

  2. Our admissions and registration staff will verify completion of apprenticeship program hours.

  4. Schedule a meeting with one of our academic counselors to ensure you meet your goals:

  5. Submit verification of journey level status to the apprenticeship office. You will fill out forms with faculty and they will submit them to our transcripts department.
  6. Enroll in classes:

  7. Petition to graduate!
    Students are eligible to graduate as soon as they’ve successfully completed all required courses with a 2.0 cumulative GPA. Students are encouraged to apply two quarters prior to the term they’d like to graduate but the latest is the last day of the quarter they plan to finish.
