Make the great outdoors your canvas for creating beautiful landscapes with a degree in landscape management.

In this program, you’ll study turf and ornamental plant materials and build skills in landscape design, construction, installation, bidding and estimating, irrigation and arboriculture. Your training will include hands-on experience working with both residential and commercial landscapes.

Whether you want to own or manage a landscape business; work for a golf course or a city parks department; or transfer to a four-year university, this degree can help you achieve your goals.

Students who successfully complete this program will be able to:

Understand and apply the principles of plant biology to crop production.
Understand and apply the principles of soil science to soil fertility and management.
Diagnose causes of plant problems (i.e. insect, disease, and abiotic problems) and suggest appropriate remedies.
Understand and apply the principles of weed science to weed management.
Understand and apply the principles of business management, accounting, human relations, and economics to agribusiness management.
Prepare and take the exams to obtain their pesticide licenses or CCA credentials.

The Agriculture Business program is designed to train students for entry-level employment in the agricultural chemical and fertilizer industry as well as grain and farming operations. Program graduates are qualified for advancement into sales, service, field representative and branch management positions.

Bio

Cindy Deffé teaches pest management, plant problem diagnosis, arboriculture, soil management and fertility, pest management project, weed biology, and green industry business management. Prior to joining SCC in 1999, she was the urban pesticide specialist and a pesticide investigator for the Washington State Department of Agriculture. She also worked in the local landscape industry for 13 years as a technical director/manager/trainer. Cindy earned a BS in ornamental horticulture with an emphasis in pest management from Washington State University and a MEd in adult continuing education from Eastern Washington University. She is also an ISA Certified Arborist.

Bio

Teya Kuhle came to SCC in 2008. Previously, she worked as a landscape designer focused on high-end residential landscapes. In the summer, she continues to work in the industry to keep up on landscape trends, with a focus on sustainable and edible landscapes. She holds a BA in art history from Western Washington University and a master’s in landscape architecture from Washington State University.
