Marketing

If you are a creative thinker who wants to be part of today’s exciting world of business, a career in marketing could be right for you.

In this program, you study how goods and services move from producer to consumer. Classes explore marketing, retailing, advertising, international business and general business concepts—like management, accounting and economics. You also have on-the-job work experiences and opportunities to get involved in our college chapter of DECA, an international management and marketing organization.

Whether you want to work in a marketing firm, a corporate marketing department, or a nonprofit organization, this program can point you toward a wide variety of interesting job options.

Detailed Information

All students graduating from this program must have a minimum grade of 2.0 on each of the courses in management, accounting, economics, and general business. Students must also have a 2.0 cumulative grade point average on all required courses in the program.

Associate in Business DTA/MRP degree

We also offer an Associate in Business DTA/MRP degree. This a statewide articulated transfer degree agreement for business majors between the community colleges and most four-year institutions in the state of Washington. A candidate for the Associate in Business degree must complete a minimum of 90 quarter credits in academic courses numbered 100 or above with a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0 and meet specific distribution requirements.

  1. Understand the position of contemporary marketing within the economy and recognize how it fits into the global economy and the world of e-commerce.
  2. Analyze strategies and tactics to develop a balanced marketing mix to reach targeted market groups in both the consumer and business to business sectors in order to create satisfied customers.
  3. Analyze and understand the elements of the marketing mix, which includes having the right products/services in the right place at the right price with proper promotion to position a product/service to reach the targeted groups.
  4. Understand how the functions of marketing (buying, selling, transporting, storing, standardization and grading, financing, risk taking, marketing research) support the marketing mix.
  5. Understand and appreciate how outside environmental forces (technology, political legal, competition, social cultural, economic) influence changes in a firm’s marketing mix.
  6. Understand the need for market information systems, understand consumer/buyer behavior and market segmentation.
  7. Understand the need to support marketing goals with management skills, communication skills, human relation skills, and ethical behavior.

The Marketing and Advertising program is designed as a two–year trade school for students who want to specialize in a career in marketing management, advertising, sales, digital marketing, and promotion. Students take core business courses followed by marketing specialty courses such as marketing, retailing, advertising, digital marketing, research, and international business. Students are also required to gain work experience as part of the program. There is the opportunity for teamwork and leadership experience through participation in college DECA, advertising, international management, and marketing organizations.
