Marketing

Marketing can lead to various entry level positions in the marketing field, including roles like social media specialist, digital marketer, marketing associate, and public relations specialist. Additionally, it can open doors to opportunities in areas like market research, sales, advertising and business operations.

Within the curriculum, students will have the opportunity to earn over ten industry certificates from Google, Hootsuite, Hubspot, and others. 

Whether you want to work in a marketing firm, a corporate marketing department, or a nonprofit organization, this program can point you toward a wide variety of interesting job options.

Detailed Information

All students graduating from this program must have a minimum grade of 2.0 on each of the courses in management, accounting, economics, and general business. Students must also have a 2.0 cumulative grade point average on all required courses in the program.

Associate in Business DTA/MRP degree

We also offer an Associate in Business DTA/MRP degree. This is a statewide articulated transfer degree agreement for business majors between the community colleges and most four-year institutions in the state of Washington. A candidate for the Associate in Business DTA/MRP degree must complete a minimum of 90 quarter credits in academic courses numbered 100 or above with a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0 and meet specific distribution requirements.

  1. Describe the position of contemporary marketing within the economy and explain how it fits into the global economy and the world of e-commerce.

  3. Analyze the elements of the marketing mix, which includes having the right products/services in the right place at the right price with proper promotion to position a product/service to reach targeted groups
  4. Explain how the functions of marketing (buying, selling, transporting, storing, standardization and grading, financing, risk taking, marketing research) support the marketing mix.
  5. Identify outside environmental forces (technology, political, legal, competition, social, cultural, and economic) and explain how they influence changes in a firm’s marketing mix.
  6. Use market information systems, computer technology and software, to analyze consumer/buyer behavior and market segmentation.
  7. Use management skills, accounting principles, demand and supply analysis, written and verbal communication, human relation skills, and ethical behavior to support marketing strategies and goals.

The Marketing and Advertising program is designed as a two–year trade school for students who want to specialize in a career in marketing management, advertising, sales, digital marketing, and promotion. Students take core business courses followed by marketing specialty courses such as marketing, retailing, advertising, digital marketing, research, and international business. Students are also required to gain work experience as part of the program. There is the opportunity for teamwork and leadership experience through participation in college DECA, advertising, international management, and marketing organizations.

All students graduating from this program must have a minimum grade of 2.0 on all required courses.

4 Ten credits of approved Marketing Electives may be substituted for BUS 206 Entrepreneurship and Business Plan Writing. If students complete the program as laid out in the map, they will earn a certificate in Entrepreneurship.
