Glenn Johnson, who is a professor emeritus at Washington State University and the mayor of Pullman since 2004, is the new chair of the Community Colleges of spokane Board of Trustees.

Author presents 'Talking About Race in Turbulent Times'

“Talking About Race in Turbulent Times” is the title of a virtual public presentation by author Clyde W. Ford of Bellingham, Wash., scheduled for 10:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, and sponsored by the Hagan Center at Spokane Community College. The morning session is more for students and faculty and the evening session for the public.

Departing CCS Trustee reflects on 10 years of service

More than a decade ago, Governor Christine Gregoire asked Bridget Piper to serve as a member of the CCS Board of Trustees. At that point, she already had served as a volunteer member of the board of the CCS Foundation for two terms, including time as the Foundation’s president. She gave an enthusiastic yes and has volunteered her time as a leader for CCS in the two roles for nearly two decades. Her final board meeting was in October and a new trustee will begin serving in November.

SCC and EWU partner to create educational pathway for skilled trades workers

A new agreement between Spokane Community College (SCC) and Eastern Washington University (EWU) has established a pathway for skilled trade workers to earn a bachelor’s degree. The partnership comes after more than two years of work between the two schools and creates a pathway for a journeyman to receive their associate’s degree at SCC, with the option to then transfer to EWU and earn their bachelor’s degree in Applied Technology.
