Aerospace

This is an apprenticeship program which means you earn while you learn. This is a structured training program combining paid on the job learning with related classroom instruction. This allows apprentices to gain practical skills while earning a living wage with healthcare, retirement, and other benefits preparing them to become journey level workers. A journey level worker is a master in their trade, able to perform all required tasks to industry standards. 

AJAC is Washington State’s largest advanced manufacturing apprenticeship provider, partnering with over 350 companies—including many across the Inland Northwest—to train the next generation of skilled workers. Our apprenticeships combine paid, full-time on-the-job training (93%) with college-level classes just one night a week (7%), giving you the skills and knowledge to build a lasting career.

From machining and industrial maintenance to CNC programming, logistics, and operations leadership, AJAC offers pathways into high-demand careers—all while you earn. Graduates finish with a nationally recognized journey-level credential and little to no college debt. Most even get summers off from class.

In partnership with this institution, AJAC offers Machining (Aircraft Oriented) Apprenticeship courses in a rigorous line of study and skill development leading to college credit. Students will apply foundational skills in manual and CNC machine technology, tool and materials selection, engineering drawings and geometric dimension and tolerance, precision measurement, lean processes and job planning. In addition to machine-specific training, students receive a foundation in academic subjects useful in the manufacturing industry, such as shop algebra, geometry and trigonometry. Students synthesize classroom learning in conjunction with structured on-the-job training to become the next generation of master machinists.

Apprentices will begin with the first quarter courses unless they recieve advance standing from AJAC allowing them to begin at a more advanced level in the program. Apprentices are also college students and recieve a certificate for completing 30 college credits from Spokane Community College.

Qualifications:

  • Currently working for a manufacturing company AJAC has partnered with – we only enroll apprentices.
  • At least 16 years of age.
  • High school graduate, GED or are working towards a GED with proof of successful completion of the
  • GED within 6 months of entering the apprenticeship.
  • Pass college Math and English classes (090 or higher) or complete an assessment test such as the:
    • World of Work Inventory with minimum scores of 27.78 numerical and 34.95 verbal.
    • ASSET Test with minimum scores of 37 reading skills, 37 writing skills and 43 numerical skills.
