Business-Transfer: Accounting, Business Administration, and Economics

If you plan to earn a bachelor’s degree in business, Spokane Community College is a great place to start.

You’ll complete the first two years of classes required to transfer as a junior into a business program at a four-year college or university. You’ll fulfill general education requirements—such as science and English—while also taking freshman- and sophomore-level business courses in topics such as economics, accounting and business law.

This page contains the information for two different degree programs:

  • If you plan to transfer to EWU, your best option is the Associate in Arts DTA degree with an emphasis in Business. EWU and SCC have agreed that these hand-selected courses will best transfer to a business-related major at EWU.
  • If you're transferring to a university other than EWU the Associate in Business DTA/MRP is the right path for you.

Both programs ensure your credits transfer smoothly for a business-related major. Please see an advisor for additional information, and to choose the one that best fits your goals and transfer destination.

Whether you want a career in business administration, accounting, management, marketing or other area of business, this program will provide the foundation you need to continue pursuing a bachelor’s degree in business.

Spokane Community College believes that you should graduate with the knowledge, skills, and abilities that further your educational goals, increasing your value in the workforce and contributing to a vibrant community.

Our AA-DTA degree program learning outcomes align to our five College-Wide Key Literacies.

Applied Content Literacy
Students will develop knowledge, skills, and abilities in all transfer distribution areas or program elements/areas. Students will build a foundation of information relevant to their program or focus of study while increasing knowledge and competency in their chosen field.

Communication Literacy
Students will develop the ability to create meaning and make connections between themselves and their audience, incorporating awareness of the social nature of communication, including, but not limited to, the impact of ethnicity, age, culture, gender, sexual orientation, and ability on communication styles and results. Students will learn to listen, read, speak, and write effectively using a variety of mediums and modalities.

Information Literacy
Students will develop knowledge and abilities allowing them to identify, locate, and evaluate information pertaining to the problem under consideration. Students will learn how to responsibly research, use, share, and produce accurate, relevant information gleaned through skilled research methods.

Intercultural Literacy
Students will develop an intersectional understanding of modern social realities, which will help enable effective participation and communication in cross-cultural professional, academic, and social settings. This may include, but is not limited to, biological sex, gender identity, socio-economic status, race, sexual orientation, religion, country and culture of origin, and political stance.

Quantitative Literacy
Students will develop and expand the ability to understand numeric information through the gathering, examination, modeling, manipulation, analysis, interpretation, and representation of quantitative and/or scientific data.

This option is for students with the goal of transferring to Eastern Washington University's (EWU) Business program to complete a Bachelor of Science in Business. Completion of the AA-DTA will satisfy lower division graduation requirements consistent with the current policies of EWU and students completing the coursework below at Spokane Community College with an AA-DTA credential will have satisfied the equivalent EWU Business Core requirements.

EWU offers eight different Bachelor of Science in Business Administration majors:

  • BSB in Entrepreneurship
  • BSB in Finance
  • BSB in Human Resource Management
  • BSB in Information Systems & Business Analytics
  • BSB in International Business
  • BSB in Management
  • BSB in Marketing
  • BSB in Professional Accounting
Students interested in completing this degree in anticipation of transferring to EWU after graduation should work closely with a counselor to ensure they are on track and satisfying all the requirements for both institutions. Students must graduate with a minimum grade of 2.5 in all Business Core courses with no grade below a 2.0.
