The Spokane Community College (SCC) Library welcomes students, faculty, staff, and guests. To maintain a productive and respectful environment, all visitors must adhere to Spokane Colleges policies, including the IT Acceptable Use Policy, General Ethics Policy, and Student Code of Conduct.

Failure to comply with these guidelines or library staff direction may result in the loss of library privileges.

Library Rules & Prohibited Behavior

  • Disruptive Behavior – Any conduct that disrupts library operations or the ability of others to study is prohibited. This includes but is not limited to:
    • Abusive or aggressive language or actions directed at library staff or patrons.
    • Loud, excessive noise or behavior deemed disruptive by library staff.
  • Computer Use – Library computers and electronic resources are for academic purposes.
    • Non-academic use is prohibited during busy periods, as determined by library staff.
    • Users may not install software or alter computer settings.
    • All computer use must comply with the Spokane Colleges IT Acceptable Use Policy.
  • Noise Levels – Keep conversations, headphone volume, and phone calls at a reasonable level.
    • Set cell phones to vibrate mode.
    • Please be mindful of those around you – excessive noise may result in staff requesting patrons to lower their volume, relocate, or leave.
  • Food & Beverages – Permitted providing:
    • Dispose of waste properly in trash and recycling bins.
    • Patrons will be responsible for damage to property resulting from food or drink.
  • Children in the Library – Children under 16 who are not enrolled in classes must be supervised by a guardian at all times.
    • Unattended children will be reported to SCC Security.

Consequences for Violations

  • First Violation – A verbal reminder of library policies will be given.
  • Second Violation – The guest will be asked to leave the library.
  • Refusal to Leave – SCC Security will be contacted.
  • Serious or Repeated Violations – Additional actions may be taken in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and other SCC college policies.
