Message to Students: March 13

To all SCC and SFCC Students—Important changes in timing and scheduling

Today (March 13) Governor Jay Inslee announced changes in Washington State to protect people’s health during the coronavirus outbreak. SCC and SFCC will remain open and continue to serve you now and during Spring Quarter. We are changing some dates and changing the way we provide your education.

Please see important changes below:

Winter Quarter Update: Please be on the lookout for messages from your instructors about any changes they might make to finish the quarter early or move final coursework or exams online or to alternate methods. Everyone is working together to make sure essential coursework is completed and students can end this quarter as quickly as possible.

Spring Quarter Will Begin on April 13, instead of April 6

You will be getting an extra week of Spring Break this year. Our student service offices and our campuses will be open during Spring Break with regular hours to serve you. Federal Financial Aid for spring quarter will be disbursed on April 6th as originally scheduled.

Because of concerns about the coronavirus and maintaining the health and safety of our students, faculty and staff, we will be moving many of our courses online for all or the beginning weeks of Spring Quarter. The extra week of spring break for you, will give your faculty time to prepare their courses to move them online or make other changes so that we can provide excellent courses to you in a safe way.

Some lab, career tech and health education classes can’t move entirely online, so we will be seeing if portions of the courses can be online and whether we can make changes to the teaching area to increase the social distancing (distance between people), increase cleaning of shared surfaces and other steps we can take to reduce the spread of coronavirus and other viruses.

These are the same steps being taken by other colleges and universities in our area.

Haven’t taken an online class before? We will help!

As we get ready for Spring Quarter we will prepare information to help students who are new to online learning. We will be with you every step of the way through these changes. Look for information updates as we have more details to share.

We know some students do not have their own computers or wifi. We are working on ensuring that there is ample access to open computer labs on campus to accommodate those students.  Open computer lab access will be supported through reconfiguring computer labs on campus to increase the distance between students, regular cleaning of them and spreading small numbers of students among many computer labs.

We will work with you to help you continue your education.
