Community Colleges of Spokane is carefully and continually reviewing the rapidly changing local, state and national health conditions.
At this time, there have been no confirmed cases of coronavirus in our service area or on our campuses. We know that could change quickly. Our classes are continuing to meet at this time and we are taking measures to increase cleaning and disinfecting on our campuses and are urging anyone who is sick to stay home. Leadership from SCC, SFCC and CCS are meeting daily to plan for possible future changes in how we serve our students and protect the wellbeing of our students, faculty and staff.
We are supporting our faculty who are moving Winter Quarter classes or final exams online or choosing other flexible alternatives to successfully complete winter quarter so that our students can earn the credits they have worked so hard for these past 11 weeks. Most of our classes for winter quarter will wrap up during the next week.
We are developing detailed plans for Spring Quarter, which begins April 6, so that we have the ability to be online in program areas where the instruction allows it -- if that is what local health officials recommend. Classes and programs that cannot be held online likely will be kept to reasonable class sizes, practice social distancing and good hygienic practices recommended by health authorities. All of these plans are being developed with our faculty and staff now.
Thankfully we already have a large and successful online course offering, which we would expand. We also are mapping out how we will best support our students in that setting so that they can have access to student support and technology support they may need.
No decision has been made at this time about changes in Spring Quarter and we are planning for all alternatives.
