Functional Fitness addresses how we live and move on-a-daily basis. Stretching, cardio, bands, weight training and balancing will help preserve your overall health and fitness plus you will feel a whole lot better about yourself from a mental and emotional standpoint. This class is scheduled to meet both synchronously and asynchronously; this means that you will be sent recordings of 3 one-hour class sessions to take at your leisure each week throughout the quarter, with the option of joining Ken online via zoom on Fridays from 1:30PM-2:30PM (PST) for a synchronous class. Stay Active and Independent for Life (SAIL) is a strength, balance and fitness program for adults 65 and older. Performing exercises that improve strength, balance and fitness is the single most important activity adults can do to stay active and reduce their chances of falling. The entire curriculum of activities in the SAIL program can be done online to help improve strength and balance, if done regularly. Fitness Level: 1 2.
Self-Myofascial Release: Foam Rolling Techniques Class # 19466 Cost: $17

Using a foam roller kneads muscles releasing knots and stiffness and soothes joints which increases flexibility and improves joint range of motion. SMFR feels great (like a massage) and it can actually correct any muscle imbalances in the body by helping muscles to relax and loosen to lengthen for stretching and preparation for exercise or recovery from exercise. SMFR can relieve muscle soreness post workout (clears lactic acid) and it can prevent it (keeps lactic acid from forming) when done before a workout. Fitness Level: 2 3 4.

There are layers for each pose and you choose the layer where you feel secure and at ease. Each pose can be done sitting in a chair, or using a chair as a prop, or standing on a yoga mat without a prop. There will be time during each class session to learn breathing techniques which can lower blood pressure, increase mental agility and improve energy level. There will also be time for rest - an opportunity to explore your mind when it is calm. This class is suitable for any age and any fitness level. The class meets twice a week for one hour and 15 minutes. The class can be taken independently or in conjunction with the 1-Day Workshop. You can attend the class at the designated time or play the recording of the class at any time during the week following the class. This class works well on zoom. Advancing Tai Chi is designed for seniors (55+) who have completed at least one Continuing Tai Chi class and want to progress to the next level of difficulty. This class has an accelerated pace and demands greater focus and concentration as compared to the previous classes. Tai Chi is gentle exercise form that improves balance, lowers blood pressure, and contributes to a general improvement of health and well-being. Students are taught the Yang-style Tai Chi Chuan short form (54 movements) and are introduced to new movements from the long form (108 movements).
