Welcome to Placement Testing!

There's a place for you at SCC!

Now that you have applied for Admission (Haven’t applied yet? Apply now!) and received your Student ID number (Haven’t received it yet? It will come via email from the Admissions Office), you are ready to schedule your placement tests!

There are different ways of being placed at SCC. Some programs require placement exams. Others do not. There are also multiple ways of satisfying the placement requirement such as recent, qualifying high school transcripts or tests like the ACT and SAT. If you’ve received your Student ID number and you’re not sure if you need a placement test, you may contact us at (509) 533-7074 and we’ll help you.

Placement testing assists students in choosing classes that are neither too difficult nor too easy, so they may experience success during their first quarter at SCC. The COMPASS and ALEKS placement tests are computer-based and are not timed. COMPASS and ALEKS tests are not intelligence or aptitude tests; they are placement tests.

Keyboarding Tests and MRSR

Some programs may require keyboarding tests in addition to the COMPASS.

What's Next?

After testing, students must schedule a New Student Orientation where they will meet with Counselors and Curriculum Advisors to discuss test results, program requirements, course selection, registration procedures, college services and activities, and strategies for success during their first quarter at SCC.

Persons with a disability requiring any auxiliary aids, services, or other accommodations should contact the college at least 30 days before the beginning of the instructional program. Call SCC's Office of Disability Support Services at 509-533-7169 (voice) or 509-533-7482 (TTY).

Please Note:

  • You must provide proof of payment of the $30.00 test fee and valid photo ID to take the test.
  • Campus parking is $3.00 payable at the Cashiers office or at parking kiosks. Metered parking is available on the street outside the building.
  • To avoid a $30.00 non-refundable fee being charged to your account, please cancel online, or call our office if you must miss this scheduled appointment.
  • Additional test sessions also require payment of a $30.00 test fee.

  3. Get plenty of rest and eat properly before the test.
