Medical Office Receptionist

A medical office is only as strong as its support staff.

In this year-long program, you'll learn how to facilitate proper medical office techniques, opening the door to positions in insurance companies, medical clinics and private physician offices across the Spokane region.

Students completing the Medical Office Reception Certificate also earn the Medical Clerical Certificate.

The Medical Office Careers programs at Spokane Community College are proud to announce official endorsement through Career Connect Washington as Career Launch programs. Our official Career Launch administrative medical office programs give students the classroom knowledge and the on-the-job experience they need to succeed.

  1. Receive patients and visitors.
  2. Appropriately manage telephone and electronic communications.
  3. Schedule appointments and procedures.
  4. Apply legal and ethical standards.
  5. Develop keyboarding skills and use of computer applications.
  6. Create and maintain patient records.
  7. Correlate knowledge of general anatomy and medical terminology to perform administrative medical assistant duties, as above.

This program prepares individuals for employment in medical offices as medical office receptionists. Spokane is a major regional center for medical care, offering many opportunities for employment. Positions are available in medical clinics, medical insurance companies, private physicians' offices, and many other healthcare settings.

Students completing the Medical Office Reception Certificate also earn the Medical Clerical Certificate.

Completion of two courses (MSEC 120 and MSEC 121) within the Medical Office Reception Certificate degree allow the students to earn and apply for the Peace Studies Certificate at SCC.

Suggested keyboarding skills of 40 wpm with six or fewer errors at the completion of BT 196 and BT 106 courses. 

Students must complete all classes with a 2.5 grade or higher. Students must complete courses in the order listed, no matter what quarter the program is started.
