After your VA application has been submitted and your school certification has been sent by the Veterans Coordinator, you will be
awarded a certain amount of money per month. This monthly amount is actually broken down into a daily rate based on a 30-day month.
(For example, if you were awarded $300 per month you would be paid $10 per day.) The first month and last month you attend will have
prorated amounts. (For example, if classes begin September 18 you would be eligible for 13 days of payments for September, or
$130. If the school year ends June 16 your last check would consist of 16 days' pay for June, or $160.)
You are also awarded according to your credit load:
|Fall through Spring Quarters
|12 credits or more = full time benefits
9-11 credits = 3/4 time benefits
6-8 credits = 1/2 time benefits
|8 credits or more = full time benefits
6-7 credits = 3/4 time
4-5 credits - 1/2 time
The VA will pay you after the fact, approximately four to seven weeks behind.
(For example, you will receive January's money sometime in February, February's money sometime in March, etc.).
